Today, Gokwe South Rural District Council successfully conducted the shortlisting process for the positions of Front-End Loader Operator and Grader Operator as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening service delivery through a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with representatives from the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the District Development Coordinator’s (DDC) Office. Those in attendance included Ms. Mahefu from the Public Service Commission, Ms. N. Mushauri from the DDC’s Office, Mr. Pfekeche, and members of the Gokwe South RDC Management team.

The panel carefully assessed all applications against the advertised requirements to ensure that only suitably qualified candidates are shortlisted for the next stage of the recruitment process. The exercise was conducted in a fair, transparent, and professional manner in line with Public Service Commission guidelines and Council recruitment policies.

Gokwe South Rural District Council is pleased to provide an update on the rehabilitation of Jovo Bridge in Ward 1.

As part of the ongoing infrastructure development programme, a significant milestone has been achieved with the successful delivery of culverts to the project site. The arrival of these materials marks the beginning of the bridge construction phase and demonstrates Council’s commitment to improving road infrastructure within the district.

The rehabilitation of Jovo Bridge is expected to enhance access for residents, improve the movement of people, goods and services, and provide a safer crossing, particularly during the rainy season. Upon completion, the bridge will strengthen connectivity within Ward 1 and contribute to the socio-economic development of the community.

Council appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents during the construction period and remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure that improves service delivery and promotes sustainable rural development.

Gokwe South Rural District Council hosted a high-level roundtable discussion with representatives from the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO) to deliberate on strategies aimed at revitalizing the country’s cotton industry and restoring its contribution to rural livelihoods and national economic growth.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including Gokwe South RDC management, three COTTCO representatives from Harare and Gokwe, and senior government leadership. The discussions were graced by Central Committee Member Hon. Samson Chigaba, together with another Central Committee Member representing Gokwe North.

The engagement focused on identifying practical solutions to the challenges affecting cotton production, including low production levels, farmer support mechanisms, input availability, market sustainability, and strengthening partnerships between local authorities, government, and COTTCO.

Participants acknowledged the historical significance of cotton as one of the major cash crops in the Gokwe region, supporting thousands of households through employment and income generation. They emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to restore farmers’ confidence in cotton production through improved pricing models, timely input distribution, extension services, and value chain development.

Speaking during the meeting, stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to working together to revive the cotton sector and create a sustainable agricultural economy that benefits local communities. The roundtable also explored opportunities for increased investment, enhanced production efficiency, and policies that promote growth within the cotton industry.

Gokwe South RDC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting agricultural development initiatives that improve livelihoods, strengthen food security, and stimulate economic development across the district. The meeting brought together councillors, council management, and key officials to deliberate on matters aimed at improving service delivery and promoting sustainable development across the district.

The Full Council Meeting provided an important platform for reviewing the implementation of council resolutions, assessing progress on development projects, and considering reports from the various council committees. Members also discussed strategies to enhance revenue collection, strengthen financial management, improve infrastructure development, and ensure efficient delivery of essential public services.

Council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance by making informed decisions that respond to the needs and aspirations of the people of Gokwe South. Duties and Responsibilities

– Operate front-end loaders and graders safely and efficiently.
– Carry out routine maintenance and daily inspections of equipment.
– Perform road construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation works.
– Report mechanical faults and defects promptly.
– Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
– Undertake any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

– Valid operator’s certificate for Front-End Loader and Grader operation.
– At least 2 years’ relevant working experience.
– Valid Class 2 or equivalent driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
– Good knowledge of equipment maintenance and safety procedures.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Gokwe South Rural District Council successfully conducted its monthly clean-up campaign for June at Hovano Business Centre in Ward 15. The campaign brought together Council staff, local leaders, business operators, and community members in a collective effort to promote environmental cleanliness and public health.

The clean-up exercise focused on the collection and proper disposal of litter, clearing of waste dumps, and improving the overall appearance of the business centre. Participants demonstrated their commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all residents and visitors.

Speaking during the campaign, Council officials emphasized the importance of proper waste management and urged community members to avoid littering. A clean environment contributes to better public health, reduces the spread of diseases, and creates a more attractive and sustainable community.

The campaign was conducted under the theme: “No to Litter – We Need a Clean Environment.” Residents and business operators were encouraged to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean at all times and to support future environmental initiatives.

Gokwe South Rural District Council conducted a General Staff Meeting today aimed at enhancing service delivery, improving workplace efficiency, and addressing matters affecting employees and the organization as a whole.

The meeting focused on several key areas, including staff welfare, where management and employees discussed issues affecting the well-being and productivity of staff members. Revenue collection strategies were also deliberated upon, with emphasis placed on strengthening collection mechanisms to improve the Council’s financial performance and capacity to deliver quality services to residents.

Furthermore, the importance of utilizing annual leave days was highlighted, encouraging employees to take leave in accordance with Council policies to promote work-life balance and maintain productivity. Staff members were also reminded about maintaining professional dressing standards as representatives of the Council.

In addition, the meeting emphasized the significance of properly completing check-in and check-out registers to enhance accountability, attendance monitoring, and workplace discipline.
